The birth of a humble prophet, age 49
at twenty minutes past twelve of 4-4-2012
Het was een wilde tijd, een tijd van
Chaos waarin alles kon gebeuren.
Het kon alle kanten op en niemand
Kon hem zeggen welke kant.
Er was genoeg gezopen en
Genoten, er was nooit zoveel
Gefeest en dat zou ook wel
Niet meer gebeuren.
En daar stond hij dan
Zonder baan, vol ideeën,
Zonder daadkracht, vol plannen,
Zonder geld, vol vuur, vaak.
Maar niet zelden willoos,
Apathisch.
Daar zat hij, potlood in de hand,
Peinzend over alles en niets.
Hij zou een moderne allesweter zijn
En een allesvreter was hij.
Hij verslond alles over kosmologie,
Ethiek, evolutie, logica, macht.
Jarenlang dacht hij eerst alles tot zich
Te nemen en later, later dan zou de
Eindconclusie zich aandienen.
Hij zou de wereld laten weten
Hoe hij het zag, hoe het was
En wat de Eindoplossing (Endlösung) was.
En de jaren gingen voorbij
En hij verslond alles
En zijn ideeën waren eerst nog springerig,
Toen kregen ze meer vorm,
Toen zaten ze gebeiteld,
Toen vervaagden ze,
Smolten weg als sneeuw voor de zon,
Of nee, niet zo snel, meer als ijskappen
Op de zich opwarmende aarde
Zou hij nog op tijd zijn?
Soms dacht hij Mohammed te begrijpen,
Of Jezus.
De uitspraken aan hen gegeven,
Althans zo leek het voor hen,
Ontsproten uit de duizenden duizenden
Interacties binnen dat uniek orgaan,
Uniek en daarom zo vreemd,
Die meervoudsvorm: De hersenen.
Dat Inzicht, daarvan ving hij een schim,
Een Platonische schaduw.
(Was hij te bescheiden? Een moderne profeet,
Maar helaas te bescheiden? Of was hij
Gestoord? Mohammed en Jezus waren ook
Gestoord. Gestoord zijn is anders-zijn,
Geraakt zijn, door het Licht, door God?)
Soms gingen zijn gedachtes ordes van grootte
Sneller dan de snelheid van zijn schrift.
Het drama dat zijn pen hem niet bijhield,
Dat zijn gedachtes niet talig genoeg waren
Om neer te pennen, te zeer een structuur
Zonder woorden.
Het idee van een roeping overviel hem soms.
Tenslotte was hij als logisch existentialist,
Levend in een tijd waarin eerst God
En vervolgens alle ideologieën stierven,
kapitalisme en materialisme uitgezonderd,
Was hij, als verlicht solipsist, degene
Die iets aan deze gedegenereerde
Maatschappij had te verkondigen.
Een heilstijding.
Een Idee dat alle wereldgodsdiensten,
Theosofie incluis, alle ideologieën,
Democratie incluis overstijgt.
En ja, hij had ontslag genomen en zich zo
Losgeworsteld van de burgerij, maar daardoor
Was hij ook straatarm.
Maanden leefde hij als een kluizenaar
Bijna, piekerde als een bezetene
Maar produceerde niets. Bijna niets.
Hij zag de zevende nieuwe maan sinds
Zijn ontslag en oordeelde dat het uur
Der waarheid was aangebroken.
Hij was een profeet van een nieuwe
Wereldorde, van een nieuwe filosofie,
Een nieuwe ideologie.
Hij was de SuperSpinoza, de SuperErasmus,
De SuperMultatuli in één persoon verenigd.
Lex Lux Soli. Dat zijn de tekenen. Hij is
Gestoord maar niet gek. Hij zal
Onverstoorbaar zijn boodschap verkondigen
Aan wie het betreft. Aan de wereld.
Maar ach, waarom ook?
Waarom die moeite om niets?
Ach, laat nu maar. . .
Er is nog wijn en
Zoveel te lezen. . .

International workshop on Islamic geometric design Istanbul
At the Design Center of Istanbul a six-days congres was organized with lectures and workshops delivered by experts in this field. Incredibly inspiring!
Conference Isfahan, Iran
May 2013. A three day conference for mathematicians and artists on geometric Islamic patterns was held. Lots of inspiring workshops and lectures were delivered.

Contribution to piece of art
Lecture for maths teachers
During the conference for Maths teachers held december 18th 2012 at the Groningen University I gave a lecture about using islamic mosaics to teach geometry at all levels in secundary schools.
