Zinloosheid
...want waar Camus beweert dat na het besef dat het leven zinloos is als antwoord op het absurde de opstand moet volgen, en daarna vrijheid en als derde passie zeg ik: Kijk naar de andere dieren en leef ook zoals zij.
De Euclidische meetkunde is een verzinsel, geconstrueerd naar een wereld die er niet in past. Het idee van een lijn in een twee- of driedimensionale ruimte is absurd. Ook hierover nadenken is leven als, bijvoorbeeld, een hond. Je hoeft niet aldoor in het besef van het absurde te leven, een hond doet dat ook niet.
Het bewustzijn kan niet zonder angsten, zonder de dood. Ontvang het eeuwige leven en je zult zeker je bewustzijn kwijtraken. Niet direct, maar traag, het besef dringt langzaam door, het bewustzijn raak je langzaam kwijt. Niet gestaag, maar in een golfbeweging; schoksgewijs zul je je bewustzijn af en toe terugkrijgen, deels, mettertijd voor steeds een kleiner deel, ook het besef ervan vervaagt totdat je het bewustzijn hebt van een steen.
Misschien werp je tegen: 'en kinderen dan? Die zijn zich veelal niet bewust van de dood, zij kennen geen angsten, vaak. Ze beelden zich in eeuwig te leven maar ze hebben wel degelijk bewustzijn.'
Kideren, ja kinderen... kinderen zijn jong, je geest kan niet eeuwig jong blijven. De essentie van kind-zijn is het tijdelijke ervan.

Wat als onze wereldgeschiedenis
er één is uit talloze, elk
in hun eigen even grote realiteit,
talloze hiervan met een Jezus, maar
elk met een juist iets andere Jezus?
Een deel hiervan met een Mohammed ook, maar

Het denken kan oneindig groot,
de wereld is een fuik en niet,
morgen koop ik misschien een lot
en splits hem in tien miljoen.

Gemakken bij ongemakken

aspecten.
Zo hoef je,
mits je er netjes
mee omgaat, en de
katernen zorgvuldig
weer dichtvouwt,
maar af en toe een krant
bij een kiosk te halen,
in plaats van een (duurder)
abonnement te nemen.

Keuzestress
Vertrekkend vanaf de garage had hij de keus uit twee routes om terug te gaan naar de parkeerplaats: linksom, half rond de dorpskern, of rechtsom.
Het besef drong weer tot hem door dat die twee keuzes hem en vele anderen twee totaal verschillende toekomsten zouden opleveren. Ongewis, maar totaal verschillend. Zoals tenslotte elke keus, hoe onbenullig ook, leidt tot een unieke toekomst.
Hij wuifde die gedachte weg, wetend dat het niet in zijn macht lag, door welke keus dan ook zich van een mooie toekomst te verzekeren en sloeg linksaf.
Hij reed niemand aan en belette nauwelijks iemand de weg.
Hij leefde voort in het besef nooit te zullen weten hoe anders zijn leven er uit zou hebben gezien, was hij rechtsafgeslagen.

International workshop on Islamic geometric design Istanbul
At the Design Center of Istanbul a six-days congres was organized with lectures and workshops delivered by experts in this field. Incredibly inspiring!
Conference Isfahan, Iran
May 2013. A three day conference for mathematicians and artists on geometric Islamic patterns was held. Lots of inspiring workshops and lectures were delivered.

Lecture for maths teachers
During the conference for Maths teachers held december 18th 2012 at the Groningen University I gave a lecture about using islamic mosaics to teach geometry at all levels in secundary schools.
