Goossen Karssenberg

Ik ben geboren in 1962 te Utrecht waar ik ook de lagere en middelbare school heb doorlopen. Studies: Natuurkunde, sterrenkunde, geschiedenis van de natuur-wetenschappen, grondslagen van de natuurkunde, wiskunde, didactiek, enige tijd portugees, dit alles aan de universiteit van Utrecht. Na mijn studie startte ik in het middelbaar onderwijs als docent, vooral in het vak wiskunde, maar ook natuurkunde en Algemene natuurwetenschappen (ANW). Als hobby gaf ik enkele keren een korte cursus portugese taal en cultuur en cursussen sterrenkunde en kosmologie. Verder gaf ik enkele jaren ook wiskunde in het engels, eerst op een middelbare school met een 'bilingual stream', later op een internationale school. Ik werkte tot 2007 in midden-Nederland, daarna verhuisden wij naar Texel. Voor details, zie loopbaan.

 

In de loop der jaren groeide, mede door het werk van mijn vrouw Maria Roelofsen, mijn interesse voor de combinatie kunst en wetenschap.

In 2009 kreeg dit een concrete vorm en kon ik als leraar in onderzoek (LIO, gefinancierd door NWO) onder begeleiding van Prof. Dr. P.J. Hogendijk en Prof. Dr. J.A. van Maanen een studie doen naar Islamitische mozaïeken en de mogelijkheden om deze te gebruiken als lesmateriaal bij wiskunde.

 

Met veel plezier combineerde ik mijn werk als leraar wiskunde met onderzoek naar de unieke islamitische ontwerptraditie van meetkundige patronen en deze twee kamen samen in de lesserie die ik ontwierp en niet alleen ikzelf, maar ook Peter Teubel en Karin Beneken-Kolmer meerdere jaren lieten doen door leerlingen uit klas 5 van het VWO op Scholengemeenschap De Hogeberg op Texel.

 

Totdat onderwijsvernieuwing op dwingende wijze moest worden ingevoerd en mijn werk op niet mis te verstane wijze werd gefrustreerd. Ik nam ontslag en startte in mei 2017 met Maria Roelofsen Museum Galerie RAT (Recomposed Art Texel), een Museum annex galerie waarin het werk van Maria met gejutte materialen samenkomt met mijn werk met meetkundige vormen.

Het museum bevindt zich in het voormalige schoolgebouw en architectenbureau op Burgwal 20 te Den Burg. Hier zijn de werken van Maria te bewonderen en tevens producten van mijn hand. Zie www.museumgalerierat.nl

Workshop 1&2 Feb. 2014

International workshop on Islamic geometric design Istanbul

At the Design Center of Istanbul a six-days congres was organized with lectures and workshops delivered by experts in this field. Incredibly inspiring!

Conference Isfahan, Iran

May 2013. A three day conference for mathematicians and artists on geometric Islamic patterns was held. Lots of inspiring workshops and lectures were delivered.

Lecture for maths teachers

During the conference for Maths teachers held december 18th 2012 at the Groningen University I gave a lecture about using islamic mosaics to teach geometry at all levels in secundary schools.
