Welkom op mijn site over (Perzische) geometrische patronen

Sinds 2008 verdiep ik me in islamitische patronen en de vraag hoe deze zijn te benutten in het wiskunde onderwijs. Ook ontwerp ik zelf nieuwe patronen die ik op verschillende manieren produceer en toepass in kunstwerken en design.

De eeuwenoude islamitische ontwerptraditie is om verschillende redenen intrigerend. De meetkundige complexiteit en elegantie van de ontwerpen is uniek. De fascinerende plaats die de islamitische mozaieken innemen in de architectuur stijgt ver uit boven het simpele idee van 'versiering': Mozaïek en gebouw vormen een onlosmakelijk geheel. De veel voorkomende combinatie met kalligrafie en bloemmotieven draagt hieraan bij. Driedimensionale toepassing van patronen op koepels en in de vorm van de stalactietachtige gewelven aan de binnenzijde van koepels en nissen (de zogenaamde muqarnas) vergroten de reikwijdte van de traditie nog verder.

Ik hoop dat deze site iets van mijn fascinatie voor islamitische mozaïeken op u weet over te brengen!

Een tegelset die ik ontwierp in NWQ 2014

In de Nationale Wetenschaps-Quiz 2014 kwam halverwege (vanaf minuut 39) mijn vraag over een bijzondere tegelset voorbij. Deze foto is van het moment waarop Lottie Hellingman uitlegt hoe de vork in de steel zit. Workshop 1&2 Feb. 2014

The workshop held on Texel was attended by 13 people in total. Among them: a furniture maker, a designer of lamps, quilters, painters and teachers. See the photo-impression of the workshop

International workshop on Islamic geometric design Istanbul

At the Design Center of Istanbul a six-days congres was organized with lectures and workshops delivered by experts in this field. Incredibly inspiring!

Conference Isfahan, Iran

May 2013. A three day conference for mathematicians and artists on geometric Islamic patterns was held. Lots of inspiring workshops and lectures were delivered.

Lecture for maths teachers

During the conference for Maths teachers held december 18th 2012 at the Groningen University I gave a lecture about using islamic mosaics to teach geometry at all levels in secundary schools.

 

Article Published

June 2012.

In the review for Dutch mathematics teachers called 'Euclides' the article 'Designing Persian Mosaics in the Classroom. Students in the centre of a medieval design tradition' appeared (for the article in Dutch click here).

Maria completed 'the frog'
